Masters Student

Joined Lab in 2025 and anticipate graduation in 2026.

I first earned a B.A. in Health and Human Physiology with a minor in Chemistry from the University of Iowa (2017), followed by a Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.) degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic (2020). Prior to returning to graduate school, I worked for four years as a practicing chiropractor in the Des Moines, Iowa area, specializing in high school and collegiate athletes. I joined the Integrative Biology and Physiology program in the fall of 2024 to pursue my Master's degree. In the spring of 2025, I joined the O’Connell lab, where my master’s thesis focuses on GPR31 cell signaling. GPR31 is a G-protein coupled receptor with a high binding affinity for the oxylipin 12-HETE. While this receptor has been extensively studied in other cell types, its function and receptor dynamics within cardiac myocytes remain largely unknown. This project provides a valuable opportunity to examine the mechanisms of cell signaling and engage in critical, molecular-level investigation. My long-term goal is to pursue a Ph.D. and ultimately establish a career in academic research.
